Elevated exterior walking surfaces were composite and the roof sloped with metal standing seam. The new complex was raised out of the flood plain and connected by a series of decks, raised walkways, and ramps, to present the public face of the ESL.īuilding construction consisted of a stick built frame, plank siding, aluminum and fiberglass windows/doors, drywall, ceiling tile, and vinyl tile floors. The project design and use of similar building materials visually and architecturally tied the new facilities to Seaside Hall and the Seawater Laboratory. These facilities replaced existing buildings that were outdated, in the flood plain, and inadequately sized to meet the current and future programmatic needs of the ESL.
